"God is in the slums, in the cardboard boxes where the poor play house. God is in the silence of a mother who has infected her child with a virus that will end both their lives. God is in the cries heard under the rubble of war. God is in the debris of wasted opportunity and lives, and God is with us if we are with them."

Everyday Missionary

"Be the change that you want to see in the world." - Mohandas Gandhi

So how will I be remembered? How have I made a difference in the world? My country? My state? My town? My home? Hmmm...

So here's my proposal. It's not about the where, but about the why and the who. An Everyday missionary is who I want to be. One day we may go to Africa or somewhere else. But for now, I am here. So what does it mean to be an everyday missionary??? Well, it may look something like this...

Whoever is kind to the needy honors God - Prov. 14:31

Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. - James 4:17

Freely you have received, freely give. - Matt 10:8

All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had...There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need. - Acts. 4:32-35

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me." - Isaiah 6:8

Pray continually. - 1Thess. 5:17

Above all, love each other deeply. - 1 Peter 4:8

It's about the heart of the matter. It's about Jesus, and what HE would do. It's not about whether we feel "called" to give the homeless wanderer some cash or if he/she is one who looks like they would just use the money to buy liqueur or cigs. (Come on admit it, we've all thought that before) The thing is that if we truly read the bible, it doesn't say anywhere to give only when you feel called, or when the person looks legit. God just says to give to those in need. No questions, no strings attached. We as a society are so worried about what is going to be done with our givings that most of the time, we just don't. How selfish are we? We need to let Him worry about what is going to be done with our money, our time, our tithe, our family, our everything.

We make up so many excuses that we excuse ourselves right out of blessings ( and I'm talking to myself here too).

So what are some things that an everyday missionary can do? Well, for one if I see that person asking for money, I will give. If I am in line at the grocery store and have a basket full, and see that the person in back of me only has a few things, I will let them go ahead. Volunteer wherever I can. Pray. Love. Forgive. Listen. Stop making excuses. Stop talking, start acting. I tithe my 10%, not because I have to per the Bible, but because I want to and I know that God will do more with my 90% than I could ever do with my 100% (this has already been proven in my life recently). I will build my ARK - Acts of Random Kindness.

It's not brain science. Not something we need sponsorship over. No team to form or building to build. Just one person at a time knowing what they ought to do, and doing it. Spreading the gospel through actions of love.

It's time to be the light of the world (Matt 5:14). I wanna be an Everyday Missionary!
